Hi gang.

Would any of you have ideas on what names I can suggest to my sister to give to her next baby? If you do, please feel free to let me know. You can reply to this post, or if you wish, you can pm me. Thanks,
Jamie

Post 3 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 27-Feb-2005 14:28:37

Ooh nifty names, those. Well I always liked the name Robbin, for a girl, I think would be best. Heh. And for a boy maybe Joe or ... I dunno! I think I'd liek have to meet the baby to decide lol! Also I've always loved thename Rachel for a girl. And if you're looking for French names, I love Adèle! Hehehe.

Post 4 by Jamie (Generic Zoner) on Sunday, 27-Feb-2005 15:21:29

Thanks. They're pretty good names for sure. I'll pass them to my sister and see what she says. Like I said, it's nice to give some help with name suggestions.

WHo cares if it's a boy or a girl. What matters is that it is given a name that kids in school won't use to make fun of the kid. Names like Rambo, Killer, Arnold Swartzenegger, Rocky, etc. You know what I mean... LOL

Post 7 by krisme (Ancient Zoner) on Monday, 28-Feb-2005 1:16:12

I'm rather partial to the name Robert (my dad's name), Liam, Mark, Henry, or John for boys. For girls Katherine, Anne, Isabelle, Skye, Rose, or Marguerite.

Post 8 by lawlord (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Monday, 28-Feb-2005 4:16:21

Well at least those names are better than serinity and nonsense like that! Robin's a bloke's name though caitlin, I certainly wouldn't dream of calling a girl robin. arturo makes the boy sound like some sort of heavyweight boxing sensation.

Post 9 by Emerald-Hourglass (Account disabled) on Monday, 28-Feb-2005 8:39:59

I like the name Erika, Alicia, Emily, Heather, Rianna for girls and for boys, Randy, Ryan, Tyler, Tyrell, Malikai, Joshua.

Post 10 by Emerald-Hourglass (Account disabled) on Monday, 28-Feb-2005 8:44:23

Oh yeah, and Camron, Luke, Sasha, Natalie, Grace!

Post 11 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Monday, 28-Feb-2005 8:53:22

I think the naming of your child is a very personal thing. It's something to be discussed between the couple expecting the child. When I was expecting my son, we'd decided that if he was a girl we were going to call him hanna, my surname is Randall, and it was a standing joke in my office that we should call the baby Hanna Anna Randall .. grin.

Post 12 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Monday, 28-Feb-2005 11:16:20

Alasdair...Katherine..Grace...Ruari...Simon...Ardeth..
Matilda....Callum...Michael...Ross..Rory..Morven...Storme...
Skye...Kyle..Gillean {Gillyan its gaelic for young man}...Struan...Peter...Roisin {Rosheen Irish}...
..good luck to your sister and let us know how it goes...

Post 13 by krisme (Ancient Zoner) on Monday, 28-Feb-2005 14:21:14

Lawlord, Robin can be a girl's name too. I had a penpal once that spelled it Robyn and she was a girl. And what's wrong with Serenitty? That's pretty.

Post 14 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Monday, 28-Feb-2005 15:54:35

Well let's bear in mind this child has to have a name that won't get it picked on at school, and that it won't turn round to its parents in later life and say "why the hell did you call me that!" and if someone called me surenity that's exactly what i'd do!

Hear hear as they say in the House of Lords. And the House of commons come to think of it.

Obadiah! You have got to be joking..

Post 20 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Tuesday, 01-Mar-2005 12:02:01

well this is why I say that names are very personal, that what one person likes is not necessarily what another one likes. my best friend for example, has a daughter called Roxanne, and when she had her and told me her name I was horrified! because that name reminds me of that song by sting! and it sounds like a prostitute's name! I don't know why, it just makes me think like that, and lots of other people who've heard the name for that matter, but my friend likes it and she's the one that has to live with the fact her daughter potentially could be teased when she's older. I'll have to dig out my baby names book and post some of the truely awful names that appear in it. grin

Post 21 by lawlord (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Tuesday, 01-Mar-2005 16:15:24

Okay, how's this for a compromise proposal? Until they are eighteen and able to choose a name by deed poll, children remain nameless? Think about it: nobody would have a name so you couldn't be bullied, or for that matter, bully anyone else about their names, and you'd also be able to choose a name that you really liked. Parents would also have a far easier time. but Lawlord, how would children be addressed? Quite simple, my dears: they would be known simply by their national health number in the UK, or numero nationale d'identite in france and continental Europe, and I'm sure the US have some sort of system whereby everyone is assigned with a number what with the hysteria over terrorism and all that. This really would work guys, so let's get it implemented and make everyone happy! names? who needs 'em!

Post 22 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Tuesday, 01-Mar-2005 16:19:36

there's a culture somewhere, now the details are somewhat sketchy so I don't know the exact details, but in this particular culture, there are only 4 names, they are given to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th born children, so, according to that person's name you know when he was born, if the family has 5 kids the 5th kid gets the first name again, grin

Thanks for the information, Star, but we won't be needing any of that rubbish anymore. It's numbers all the way now, mi' old geezers!

Post 25 by Star (Honorary Bitch of the Zone) on Wednesday, 02-Mar-2005 3:48:41

Oh gee! Lawlord you are your sweet self again. Who is "we" ("we won't be needing any of that rubbish anymore") are you also expecting besides Justin's sister? How sweet!

Post 26 by lawlord (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Wednesday, 02-Mar-2005 5:32:24

When I say "We", Star, I was referring to the remarks I made a couple of posts above which prefaced that latter post. YOu will notice that in the remarks aforesaid, I mooted the possibility of doing away with the concept of names altogether whilst people remained minors. Now I'm not going through all that again as I assume you are capable of finding the above remarks aforesaid on your own. Names? Who needs 'em! i say ban 'em!

Post 27 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Wednesday, 02-Mar-2005 10:22:26

LOL! LL No I'm very fond of my name Alexander as its an old family name, but I'd be very happy to lose my middle 1 John ..its just not me dear boy...

Murgatroyd is a truly awful monkier as are Claude and Harriet,Oliver also does little for me and Henry is just cruel...

Post 28 by lawlord (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Wednesday, 02-Mar-2005 17:07:43

Well Goblin, I thought you'd really be up for this proposal, given your penchant for radical solutions! And of course under the Lawlordian solution you could still be called Alexander, because you could choose to be when you were eighteen. Prior to that age, though, you'd be known simply as 4748987912 or whatever your NHS number is.

I find it hard to believe that Madison is the #1 most popular girl's name...

James

Post 30 by medical queen (This site is so "educational") on Wednesday, 02-Mar-2005 22:55:45

Ooh I have several names. For a girl I like Alex, as in Alexandra, Keshia, Saralee, Monica, Marjorie, Caroline, Altanasia, Anastasia, Asia, Aaliyyah, and for a boy I like Aaron, Terry, Isaiah, Jeromy, and Jeromiah.

Post 32 by medical queen (This site is so "educational") on Wednesday, 02-Mar-2005 23:01:11

Oh and for the boy I also like Zachary. Any more names I come up with I'll shoot them all here. Like I said my mind's fully of names. I might come up with 100 names by the time the baby comes. BTW how far along pregnant is your sister?

Post 33 by medical queen (This site is so "educational") on Wednesday, 02-Mar-2005 23:03:33

Another name for the girl I came up with is Marguerite.

Post 35 by krisme (Ancient Zoner) on Thursday, 03-Mar-2005 1:26:33

Post 36 by Freya (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 03-Mar-2005 11:18:58

Numbers...? That is a terrible idea LL, I mean how would anyone remember those long combinations of numbers and imagine looking down at your sweet little baby calling it a number?! Frey. PS my faves are Griselda for the girl and Alfred for the boy yeah?

Post 37 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Thursday, 03-Mar-2005 12:06:24
